Online Shale Energy Education Resources, Part I

Edward Camp, II
ShaleNavigator Team Lead at Geospatial Corporation

Resources on the web offer some terrific shale energy education resources

As an energy mapping expert with Geospatial Corporation, my goals are to deliver high quality, accurate information to people and businesses who use ShaleNavigator . Most of these people are using this information to learn more about what is happening in specific areas their service company is operating. Our program offers a great resource and I encourage you to demo ShaleNavigator and Geospatial Corporation’s revolutionary GeoUnderground mapping product .

There are several other online resources that are also readily accessible to natural gas supporters. What I’ve found are more general education-oriented resources that are geared toward understanding how energy, specifically shale energy benefits our everyday lives. I particularly like the ExxonMobil resource for the quiz format . It’s easy to use and does a great job with relating how energy affects our everyday lives, both locally and globally.

Some of the answers aren’t what you think, and it’s built for any non-technical person to use. Amongst the information offered, for example, is an excellent page on hydraulic fracturing, as well as another page that demonstrates how little has to be disturbed to recover energy resources with modern drilling technology.

This U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) resource is great for comprehensiveness – they cover all energy sources, well beyond oil and gas. The EIA is responsible for tracking data so their site is always updated, and contains lots of graphs, charts, and interactive maps.

There are also web-based libraries of shale energy education materials. NaturalGasNOW.org, for example, offers an excellent page listing sources of information on hydraulic fracturing as well as a compilation of fact sheets on natural gas and shale development. EnergyInDepth.org provides a library, an excellent “Just the Facts” page and a multimedia page with access to great videos, as does NoHotAir.co.uk.

Turn to ShaleNavigator for the latest energy tools, news and products. Make sure to check back next week for our post on Online Shale Energy Education Resources, Part II!
